A giant greenhouse with a double nave

Designed by studio b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, the Spanish Pavilion will be a light structure, dry-assembled using recycled and natural materials, making it easy to dismantle and reassemble.
Inspired by a double-naved greenhouse with a characteristic Iberian portico, the Pavilion is coordinated by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the public body that manages Spain's participation in Universal and International Expositions. Taking its cue from the Expo’s theme: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, the space will present the strong points and best practices of Spanish food production, sharing initiatives based on quality, sustainability, and food security. The Spanish diet and regional cuisine will occupy centre stage in the presentations, framed by views of their distinctivelandscapes.

The Voyage of Food and the Language of Flavour

The Spanish Pavilion will be on two floors, housing two separate exhibitions. On the ground floor, visitors can follow The Voyage of Food, an installation by multidisclinary artist Antoni Miralda, who will offer a poetic reflection on the journeys traveled by food-products. The second floor will house The Language of Flavour show, which enters into the mind of a Spanish cook, allowing visitors to explore his art, knowledge, and favourite recipes. All this will be complemented by a Tapas bar, a restaurant, a gourmet shop, a public square, and a multi-functional auditorium. These spaces will house workshops, concerts, cooking shows, and conferences. This will be a unique opportunity for a wider public to get a closer look at the rich heritage of Spanish cuisine and culture through a gastronomic offering that will also include those of the Autonomous Communities, to which the Pavilion will dedicate thematic weeks.
