Islamic Republic of Iran at Expo 2015 Milano

Theme "Food and Culture"

The Concept

The Persian territory was among the first in the world to bring forth civilization. Here, six thousand years ago the first humans experimented with farming and agriculture, with the first planting and irrigation techniques. The purpose of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s participation at Expo Milano 2015 is to illustrate the potential and capacity of its agricultural production. Through technology, eco-efficiency and exports, Iran aims to become the fourth country in the world for the supply of agricultural products.

The 14.3 million hectares (8% of the territory) of Iranian forests are vital for achieving food security and ensuring the survival of millions of Iranians. Iran also depends on its forests for its energy and water supply. The water of the mountain forests is essential for its farming and crop-growing, but also for promoting reforestation activities that guarantee the local communities the energy sources they need.

Given all this, the Iranian cuisine is among the richest there is, offering a variety of dishes like few other countries in the world. Its cereals, legumes, fruits (such as the pomegranate), vegetables, and animal and vegetable proteins make the Persian diet both healthy and balanced. The potential and the ability of its food industry are exhibited and represented in Iran’s 1,910 square-meter pavilion. Visiting its interior you can see what's new in the field of sustainable development and the fight against poverty and hunger, attend conferences, and admire the art and architecture of a tradition that dates back thousands of years.
